I recently got a sample of the Body Shop's "hair butter". I used a bit of it on the length and ends of my hair since those parts tend to be dry. The problem is, the stuff seems not to wash out and has just turned into a nasty residue all over my hair. When wet, my hair feels waxy. I think I am close to a system that works for me. The thing that is making a differance for me is clay sprinkled on, brushed in and left for a while, this is keeping the grease down.
